Wrap a Building
Based on a competition announcement of the facade system company Kalzip we designed a flexible, changeable cover for buildings. This cover does not follow a concept of varied individual objects, but has a continuity in its production and spatial appearance.

The current architectural discourse showed us the way to the use of rapid prototyping technologies. By using these technologies we reinterpreted the old technique of knitting. Knitting allows for creating a two and a half dimensional surface from a onedimensional source material. That twodimensional surface can then be variated by inserting knitting patterns that form spatial bulges, compressions and expansions, variable perforations and bearings.
In excessive test we prooved the possibility of knitting by robots. Knitting Robots then can be added to the list of computer aided
manufacturing tools.
The project is the result of a cooperation with Robin Peer.
